Low-power remote power-independent (solar charged) sensor node!

This project here will be my starting point, a Low-Power Wireless Sensor Node where most of the work is already cut out for me.

HeatSynch Labs Hosts Arduino Hackathon

Phoenix's HeatSynch Labs will host HackPHX Arduino, an all-day and all-night Arduino hackathon tomorrow, Feb. 2, from 10am-10:15pm. Here's how it will go down: In a ode to Iron Chef, 50 participants will be split into 10 teams for 12 hours to create something awesome from an Arduino, a "secret ingredient," and the hackerspace's resources. The teams will compete for more than $4,000 in prizes and giveaways. Expect music, robots, interactive light, wearable electronics, and more. Oreo-creme hater builds Rube Goldberg CNC router to remove the Stuf

Look, we understand the need to find a project to occupy your time and interest. So we’re not going to ask the wrong question (why?) for this one. This guy hates the creme that connects the chocolate cookies to make an Oreo. So he built a complicated system to separate the cookies and remove the creme. Check out the video after the break for a hardware overview (where we catch a glimpse of an Arduino RBBB) and a complete demonstration.

Although the project is a marketing gimmick for the company, we really love the fun they had making the video and the device actually works! Drop a cookie in the chute and it will be lifted into position for cleaving with a hatchet (we’re unsure what the string mechanism on the hatchet is for). The two pieces are then grabbed by some servo-powered grippers and transferred to a CNC router bed where a Dremel tool removes the residual creme before dumping the cookies out into your hand.

Once again, marketers should take note of this style of advertising. Notice the two main features achieved here: including a product in something we’re genuinely interested in and not being annoying (we’re looking at you Head-On).

ArduPi Webcam Tankbot

What does it do?

Web controllable mobile platform for webcam mounted on pan/tilt turret

This is my first robot project though I have been working with Microcontrollers and Embedded Linux for a little while. As of writing (3/1/13) this is still very much a work in progress, but most of the hardware construction has been completed. This robot will provide a remotely controlled, mobile platform for a pan/tilt webcam. It is based on the excellent Tamiya Tracked Chassis Kit with the Dual DC Motors connected to the Arduino Motor Shield R3 via the Screw Terminal.

I managed to finish my first robot on witch I spent a lot of time, mostly because a lot of stuff was new to me. It is not very complicated but it seems to do it's job well. I posted everything about the build on my blog and also the parts I used (and the ones I rejected).

It is a Tamiya tracked platform with dual gearbox. I used an Arduino UNO and a SeeedStudio motor shield to drive it from a 11.7 lipo battery I had from my RC heli. It uses a Ultrasonic sensor to look in front and also a DIY IR sensor for backing up. I also added a temperature sensor for the fun of it.

Interview with Pinoccio Co-Founder Eric Jennings

Eric Weddington, marketing manager for open source and communities at Atmel, posted an in-depth interview with Pinoccio's Eric Jennings. Pinnoccio is a new, open source hardware company. Their first product is a microcontroller board aimed at creating “a complete ecosystem" for the internet of things. Pinoccio calls their board an "Arduino Mega with wings." It's Raspberry Pi-friendly, too.
