Vibrating Distance Torch Illuminates the Dark without Light

If you’ve ever had to move around in a dark room before, you know how frustrating it can be. This is especially true if you are in an unfamiliar place. [Brian] has attempted to help solve this problem by building a vibrating distance sensor that is intuitive to use.

The main circuit is rather simple. An Arduino is hooked up to both an ultrasonic distance sensor and a vibrating motor. The distance sensor uses sound to determine the distance of an object by calculating how long it takes for an emitted sound to return to the sensor. The sensor uses sounds that are above the range of human hearing, so no one in the vicinity will hear it. The Arduino then vibrates a motor quickly if the object is very close, or slowly if it is far away. The whole circuit is powered by a 9V battery.

The real trick to this project is that the entire thing is housed inside of an old flashlight. [Brian] used OpenSCAD to design a custom plastic mount. This mount replaces the flashlight lens and allows the ultrasonic sensor to be secured to the front of the flashlight. The flashlight housing makes the device very intuitive to use. You simply point the flashlight in front of you and press the button. Instead of shining a bright light, the flashlight vibrates to let you know if the way ahead is clear. This way the user can more easily navigate around in the dark without the risk of being seen or waking up people in the area.

This reminds us of project Tacit, which used two of these ultrasonic sensors mounted on a fingerless glove.

Hello everyone. My ultrasonic sensors arrived (4 in total) but instead of using them on my scrapbot, i found some 360 degree servos that i had gathering dust from a previous project.so i decided to make use if them. The scrapbot was too loud because of the build materials so i settled with this. 

In the video it has the distance set to 30cm.

REG•E the Robot

This is REG•E and he is my first obstacle avoiding robot.

He works off two Lego motors powered by 4 AA batteries and for a brain he has an Arduino Duemilanove. He uses an ultrasonic range finder to 'see' what's in front of him. 3d Printed Quadruped

Obstacle avoidance via ping, hand tracking (eventually)

Still lots to do, but I finally got this guy printed and assembled. He has 3DOF per leg using cheap 9g servos :( I'm using Inverse kinematics for his movement. I just started programming him and got the IK working for one leg. The ping((( is just stuck in the mega2560 for now. I'll be adding a tilt/pan head when I get more servos, and the wiring needs some cleaning up :p I just found out about LMR last week and so far it's awesome! Hopefully by the end of next weekend I'll have some walk sequence video to show off.

2WD Robot, ArduinoMega 1280, PanPing sensor problem

Hello everybody. 

First sorry for my English but not good. I want to ask the profis about my robotics problems. :) 
I have a 2wd mobile platform. I played with this so many and my old simple codes was working well. 

But I decided, I want to upgrade a little bit my "stupid" code which was very good with the fixed ping sensor and some IR sensor but too simple. Than I rebuilded all IR sensor first, and builded a little servo for the PING sensor.

Alarma DIY con Módulo 3G, Cámara, Ultrasonidos, Teclado Matricial & Led RGB

Reproducirá un sonido contundente y se dispondrá a mandarnos un sms a nuestro teléfono móvil y la fotografía a nuestro correo electrónico.
