Maker Faire Rome 2014 – What have you built with Arduino?

Many of you were with us last October  in Rome for the European Maker Faire together with more than 500 makers from all over the world! The event was massive and 90 thousands people visited the booths, the workshops and the presentations taking place in those days.

To celebrate the amazing moments we created a series of short videos showcasing the use of Arduino in projects hosted during the Faire. Our crew explored the whole exhibition and talked with a lot of makers presenting a project with Arduino inside. We asked them four simple questions:

  • What have you built?
  • Which problem does your project solve?
  • Why did you use Arduino as a controller
  • How long did it take to make it?

Now it’s time to  share with you the videos.
In this page you can find the video promo with a preview of the upcoming videos and the first interview (of  18 interviews) to the makers: Stefano Ceroni talks about his “Brain-controlled bionic hand”:

Bringing makers back to the Lab

Scientists working in a lab are just folks. Like motor heads with cars, we have our favourite makes and models—except with scientists, it's all about the lab equipment.

Snapshots from Maker Faire Rome 2014!

Last weekend the second edition of Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition,  hosted 90,000 people (15,000 young boys and girls!) at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, discovering more than 600 maker projects, participated to workshops and attended the conferences and many light-talks.

Take a look at some snapshots on our Flickr account: we took them during the faire at the Arduino Booth and Store (also behind the scene),  the Arduino Activities and the presentations announcing  the State of Arduino and CasaJasmina – the open source connected home – curated by Bruce Sterling. During the long and intense weekend Arduino participated also to the press conference and vernissage of the exhibition 50 years of italian inventions, from Programma 101 to the first 3d printed car, a project by Make in Italy CDB foundation.

In the next weeks we are going to share some  videos of the presentations and the events of those amazing days! Thanks for participating to Maker Faire Rome! Stay tuned…

Let’s Make a Better World at Maker Faire Rome

Let’s Make! (A Better World) is the title of the Maker Faire Rome Opening Conference  taking place tomorrow October 2 on the stage of Sinopoli Hall at the Auditorium Parco della Musica from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Many of the actors of the Third Industrial Revolution are going to unfold how this is changing our lives forever and if you want to hear it live, book your free ticket now!

The morning session will host, among the others,  sci-fi author Cory Doctorow and astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti who, just a few days later, will take off on a long space mission bringing tools made by makers; Massimo Banzi will close the session with a keynote about Arduino manifesto on Internet of Things.

The afternoon session will be dedicated to economist Mariana Mazzucato, explaining why this “revolution without permission” needs an innovative Country, and to cyborg artist Neil Haribisson, the first person in the world to have an antenna integrated in his skull.

Speakers, makers village and projects: Maker Faire Rome takes off

Riccardo Luna, co-curator of Maker Faire Rome has just revealed the first list of speakers confirming their presence next October! You have some more days to submit your project, deadline extended until 15th of June.

————————————-

Today, together with Massimo Banzi, we have some important news to share with you. There are big novelties at the second annual European Maker Faire in Rome (actually, there will be many more within the next few days as you will see…).

The first one is the list of speakers for the opening conference on October 2. It is not complete, other names will be added, but already we can say: it is an incredible list.

We are delighted to announce the presence of, among others, Cory Doctorow, who, here, on this blog, does not even need to be introduced; artist Neil Harbisson; scientist Ellen Jorgensen, who will discuss genetic hacking; the very young Joey Hudy will be back and, this time, Super-Awesome Sylvia will also come; and the Dutch robot music band TeamDARE.

We have given particular attention to the 3D printer sector and its medical applications: therefore, scientists will be the protagonists of great allenges like printing ears, lungs or hearts in 3D.

There are many names and you will see them on this site, but first let me publicly thank the European Space Agency for honoring us with the last public appearance before a six month space mission of astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti: I know Samantha well, I know what she is worth and I am fascinated by her curiosity about the world of makers; I heard her planning a mission taking maker tools into space and the idea of Arduino among the stars is fascinating.

So, we have the names. Now, where will they all be? This is the second novelty: we will leave the Palazzo dei congressi and, instead, meet at the Parco della Musica designed by Renzo Piano. Not only is it the most beautiful structure for events in Rome, it is a real park where we intend to build a Makers Village comparable to those that exist in San Mateo and New York.

We are not exaggerating, the space is beautiful and there is room for everyone: exhibitions, workshops, areas for babies and children, an area for parties. Asset Camera, as you know, is producing Maker Faire Rome for the second time, and after the huge success of last year is offering us a container where the only limit will be our imagination.

Now we are waiting for your projects. And we are certain they will be worthy of an event that will occur in the middle of the semester when Europe is headed by Italy, which will therefore make it a great celebration of European innovators (but we will still also have African and Chinese makers and fablabs).

And, for this reason we have decided to extend the deadline of the Call 4Makers. There’s still time, a few extra days have been added (until June 15). And a beautiful place awaits you. Not just to have fun, but to truly take part in the third industrial revolution.
