It looks like the 'Uncharted 4' and 'Lost Legacy' bundle is coming to PC on October 19th

It seems that nine long months after a remastered bundle of Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: Lost Legacy debuted on PlayStation 5, PC gamers will be able to find out what all the fuss is about. According to a listing on the Epic Games Store spotted by Twitter gaming deals maestro Wario64, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will hit that storefront on October 19th. It appears Epic published the information ahead of schedule, as the game's page currently displays a 404 error. The leak backs up a previous hint from SteamDB that October 19th was the release date.

Legacy of Thieves Collection is supposed to be coming to Steam before the end of the year as well, but it appears that if you pre-order through Epic, you'll gain access to a Sully's Seaplane glider in Fortnite at no extra cost. Nathan Drake and Chloe Frazer skins arrived in that game earlier this year to promote the Uncharted movie.

The apparent timing of the Legacy of Thieves Collection PC release is interesting, since Sony said Spider-Man: Miles Morales is coming to that platform sometime this fall. One would think they'd try to space things out a bit. In any case, perhaps Sony will soon host a PlayStation showcase that clears everything up.

Watch the Disney and Marvel games showcase here at 4PM ET

Disney and Marvel are holding what's shaping up to be a newsworthy gaming event today at the D23 Expo. The first Disney and Marvel Games Showcase (to give its official name) starts at 4PM ET and you'll be able to watch it below.

Expect updates on Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 20th Century projects. There's something new in store for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (a timely expansion focused on Rogue One, perhaps?), along with info on Disney Dreamlight Valley, which arrived this week, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Perhaps most enticingly, we'll get a peek at the Marvel action-adventure game that Amy Hennig’s studio, Skydance New Media, is working on

On top of those, rumors suggest the showcase will include a peek at an Iron Man game from EA. Maybe we'll finally learn a bit more about the Indiana Jones game Bethesda announced early last year or even get a look at Spider-Man 2 gameplay. In any case, we won't have to wait long to find out.

Merriam-Webster just yeeted a bunch of internet slang into the dictionary

Language purists will have to get real cool with internet buzzwords and slangs those "darn kids" make up really quickly, because Merriam-Webster has legitimized a bunch by adding them to its dictionary. The addition of "metaverse" comes as no surprise, seeing as companies like Facebook have been all about the virtual environment recently in meatspace. Yes, "meatspace" is a term now used to describe physical space and environment. "Altcoin" has also been added to describe alternatives to established cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin.

People have been saying "laggy" and "pwn" for a very, very long time now, but now those words have their own pages on the dictionary's website. And those who want to tell someone on the internet that they're "virtue signaling" or "greenwashing" something can now simply link them to those terms.

When the game Among Us rose in popularity, so did the slang "sus," which means suspicious or suspect, so it's not a mystery why Merriam-Webster has officially recognized it. The word "lewk," as in fashion looks, is now officially a word, as well. We hope nobody "cringes" or "yeets" whatever it is they're holding, but "adorkable" has also been added to the dictionary. (Yep, "cringe" and "yeet" get their own dictionary entries, too.)

The list of new words includes additions that clearly illustrate how these past years have gone for everyone. "Booster dose," which became a commonly uttered phrase because of the pandemic, gets its own Merriam-Webster page, so do "false positive" and "false negative" lab test results. The words "shrinkflation," the practice of reducing a product's amount or volume while offering it at the same price, and "side hustle" are also part of the list and will serve as reminders for years to come about the state of the economy in 2022.

Merriam-Webster has posted the full list of new words, which also include some delicious entries like "pumpkin spice" and "birria," on its website.

Instagram will introduce a repost feature as part of a new test

Instagram will soon be testing reposts, something that's never been available in the main feed part of the app but is a key feature on Facebook and Twitter. It was first spotted on the profile of Twitter CEO Adam Mosseri by social media consultant Matt Navarra, and Instagram later confirmed it with TechCrunch."

"We’re exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed — similar to how you can reshare in Stories — so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited for their work," a Meta spokesperson told TechCrunch. "We plan to test this soon with a small number of people."

A new screen describes the features as a way to recommend a post to friends, and spark conversations wiht follows, who can reply to your repost with a message. Feed reposts are "shown in a separate tab in your profile" along with posts, reels and tagged photos, and will be visible to followers.

This is what the new instagram repost feature intro screen looks like

Reposts have been available in Stories since 2018, but the only way to do it in feeds has been via third-party apps (clues about the feature were first spotted back in May by researcher Alessandro Paluzzi). Instagram's arch-rival TikTok recently introduced a repost feature for videos following tests early in 2022. However, reposted TikTok videos only appear in your friends' 'For You' feeds and not in your own profile.

Instagram has introduced a slew of updates recently to help it better compete with TikTok. It recently launched a full-screen TikTok-like feed and boosted the amount of recommended content you see. However, following complaints (including from celebrities), it backed off and said it would phase out the full-screen mode and scale back recommended posts.

Some social media experts worry that reposts may create similar issues by pushing content from strangers. "Reposting is another explicit step towards dismantling the IG that you know, in favor of one that Instagram thinks will be a better experience for you," wroteSocial Media Today's Andrew Hutchinson. "BeReal’s growth shows that there is a real desire for more authentic connection and community engagement, outside of the constant highlight reels of viral clips."

‘The Wrath of Khan’ is getting an official Star Trek podcast prequel

Paramount has announced a new scripted Star Trek podcast detailing the exploits of arch-villain Khan Noonien Singh. Star Trek: Khan - Ceti Alpha V will cover the period of time after Khan and his cohort of genetically-engineered villains were exiled during the classic episode Space Seed and before Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. More importantly, the long-mooted miniseries will be written and directed by Trek auteur Nicholas Meyer.

To Trek fans, there are few creative figures who deserve more swooning adoration than Meyer. The writer-director made The Wrath of Khan, the movie that ostensibly saved the series from obscurity. He would go on to co-write The Voyage Home and helm The Undiscovered Country — three of the best Star Trek movies ever made. In fact, one esteemed Trek scholar even said that to make great Star Trek you need to do two things: Hire Nicholas Meyer, then cut his budget in half.

Alex Kurtzman gave praise to Meyer, saying that “Nick made the definitive Trek movie when he made Wrath, and we’ve all been standing in its shadow since.” He added that Meyer has “come up with something as surprising, gripping and emotional as the original, and it’s a real honor to be able to let him tell the next chapter in this story exactly the way he wants to.”

When Star Trek’s revival began, Discovery’s original creator Bryan Fuller recruited Meyer as a producer. Back in 2017, Meyer added that discussions had taken place for him to write a Khan mid-quel series covering his exile and bridging the gap between the classic series and the film. The series may or may not have been put on ice as a consequence of Paramount and CBS’ complex re-merger, and the fact it was only expected to be three episodes long.

Unfortunately there’s no solid details on who will star in the series (Ricardo Montalban passed away in 2009), and no word on a release date or runtime. But given that Paramount has a) Hired Nicholas Meyer and b) cut his budget by more than half, we should expect this podcast to be the greatest piece of Trek ever committed to audio.

Twitter finally gets around to adding direct Insta and Snap sharing to its Android app

Why screencap when you can simply share? Twitter Support announced on Thursday that its Android app will soon receive the same functionality that its iOS alternative already enjoys: the ability to share tweets directly on Instagram or Snapchat.

We enjoyed the Tweet. Now everyone should enjoy it too.

Sharing a Tweet directly to Snapchat and Instagram Stories is now available on Android (already on iOS!)

And we added LinkedIn sharing on Android and iOS. Tap the share icon on a Tweet to try it out.

— Twitter Support (@TwitterSupport) September 8, 2022

What's more, Twitter is adding LinkedIn direct sharing to both Android and iOS so your echo chamber will be able to bounce around through three separate social media silos. Twitter is also working to increase its cross-platform reach in India, where TechCrunch reports that the social media company is already testing out a "Share to Whatsapp" button for users in that market.

Twitter will let you edit your tweets up to five times in 30 minutes

Last week Twitter announced that it would finally be introducing an edit button that users had been requesting pretty much since the app came out. While we knew that it would let you make changes for up to 30 minutes after posting, we're now learning that you'll only be able to make up to five edits too, TechCrunch has reported.

A legitimate concern about editing is that users could alter the contents of a tweet after it's disseminated widely, significantly altering the meaning. That could then potentially be abused to spread misinformation, scams and more, experts told The Washington Post. As such, the five-edit limit might be a way to prevent such abuse, though Twitter told TechCrunch that the number of edits could change based on user data it's currently collecting.

We already knew that the feature would be coming to Twitter Blue subscribers first "in a single country," Twitter said earlier. Now it confirmed that it'll launch in New Zealand later this month, and once the company learns more about how it's being used, it'll roll out to Twitter Blue users in Australia, Canada and the US. So far, the paid service is only available in those four countries.

Meta's virtual Connect event will stream live Oct. 11th

Meta Connect, the company’s annual event devoted to augmented and virtual reality, is just over a month away. The newly renamed event will take place October 11th, Mark Zuckerberg announced in a post on Facebook.

As with last year, the event will be virtual and streamed live on Reality Labs’ Facebook page. For now, there are few other official details available. The Meta Connect website says more information about speakers and the schedule for the day are “coming soon.”

But we already know a bit about what to expect. Meta is likely to finally show off Project Cambria, its new high-end VR headset that may be called Meta Quest Pro. In his Facebook post, Zuckerberg seemed to tease the big reveal, with a photo of him wearing a headset that was almost entirely obscured. Zuckerberg also recently promised “major updates” to Horizon avatars after his own low-res VR likeness was mercilessly dragged.

Meta

It will also be the company’s first big VR event since Zuckerberg announced Facebook’s rebrand to Meta at Connect last fall. At the time, he tried to articulate his vision for the metaverse and the social network’s role in it. But that vision hasn't always been clear. And the idea of a "metaverse" has still been a source of confusion (and sometimes derision, as evidenced by the reaction to Zuckerberg’s avatar). Meta Connect will also be Zuckerberg’s latest opportunity to not only hype the company’s latest hardware, but to try to build excitement for an eventual metaverse.

Riot's 'Arcane' is the first streaming series to win an animated Emmy award

Netflix's League of Legends-based animated series Arcane has won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program, becoming the first streaming series to win in that category. It beat out some much better known competition, including Bob's Burgers, Rick and Morty, The Simpsons and What If...? hosted by the late Chadwick Boseman. "It’s a big deal for us as we come from video games. It’s been amazing to see the world embrace our characters and our stories," said Arcane co-creator Christian Linke.

The series stars Ella Purnell (Jinx), Hailee Steinfeld (Vi) and Katie Leung (Caitlyn). It was picked up for a second season by Netflix last winter, suggesting that the streamer was willing to embrace high-budget game-based productions. The first season boasted nearly 34.2 million viewing hours in its first week on Netflix's top 10 chart, putting it second in views at that time. It also received very positive reviews from both critics and audiences.

Honored doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel about winning the #Emmy for 𝑶𝒖𝒕𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎.

Thank you to our incredible team at @RiotGames and Fortiche, the @TelevisionAcad, and the greatest fans (yes, you) for making this possible. pic.twitter.com/xFNWt4eNc7

— Arcane (@arcaneshow) September 4, 2022

Riot Games had already worked closely with Arcane animation studio Fortiche, but acquired a significant, non-controlling stake earlier in March. The companies worked together to introduce Jinx to League of Legends in 2013, and plan to join forces on "other to-be-announced" projects on top of Arcane, though no details have been released yet.

Meanwhile, What If...? didn't leave the Creative Arts Emmys empty-handed, as Boseman received a posthumous award for his voiceover work across the first season. "What a beautifully aligned moment it really is that one of the last things he would work on would not only be revisiting a character that was so important to him... but also that it be an exploration of something new, diving into a new potential future," said his wife Taylor Simone Ledward in accepting the award.

'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' sets Amazon Prime viewing record

The two-episode premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power drew 25 million viewers around the world in 24 hours, making it the biggest debut in Prime Video's history, Amazon said in a press release. "It is somehow fitting that Tolkien’s stories — among the most popular of all time, and what many consider to be the true origin of the fantasy genre — have led us to this proud moment," said Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke.

There was a lot on the line for the series, with a reported $465 million budget for the first season and heavy competition from HBO's rival House of Dragons series. The latter also recently debuted to the highest ratings in HBO's history with 9.986 million viewers across its linear HBO and streaming HBO Max platforms.

Amazon also took the unusual step of delaying reviews for The Rings of Power by 72 hours to filter out trolls, Variety reported. It appeared to have been "review bombed" on sites like Rotten Tomatoes, where it received a 37 percent rating from users but an 84 percent mark from critics. The series has faced trolling over its decision to cast actors of color as elves, dwarves and other characters.

The studio plans to evaluate each review to determine whether it's legitimate or created by a bot or troll. Amazon first introduced the practice when the baseball series A League of Their Own debuted on August 12th. That strategy appears to have worked, with the latter earning a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on Prime Video, compared to a 94 percent Rotten Tomatoes critic rating (however, that also closely lines up with the 85 percent audience score on RT).
