For the third year we are inviting the open source community gathered around Arduino and Genuino globally to celebrate with us Arduino Day 2016 on Saturday April 2nd!

Arduino Day is a worldwide celebration of Arduino’s birthday. It’s a 24 hours-long event –organized directly by the community, or by the Arduino team– where people interested in Arduino get together, share their experiences, and learn more. Everyone can participate in the role of local organizer or as a participant.

For the past two years organizers throughout Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa and Australia involved participants in activities, workshops, events for a wide range of audiences and skillsets.

Stay tuned because in February we’ll be launching the open call for entries.

At the end of March Arduino Day was celebrated around the world in more than 260 official and community events. In the video below Massimo Banzi, David Cuartielles, Tom Igoe and David Mellis sent a message to the whole community from the celebration taking place at MIT in Boston:

The game of Chinese Whispers or Telephone involves telling one person a sentence, having that person tell another person the same sentence, and continuing on until purple monkey dishwasher. For this year’s Arduino Day, [Mastro] was hanging out at Crunchlab with a bunch of Arduinos. What do you do with a bunch of Arduinos? Telephone with software serial.

The setup for this game is extremely simple – have one Arduino act as the master, listening for bits on the (hardware) serial port. This Arduino then sends those bits down a chain of Arduinos over the software serial port until it finally loops around to the master. The result is displayed in a terminal.

With only about a dozen Arduinos in this game of Telephone, [Mastro] did get a few transmission errors. That’s slightly surprising, as the code is only running at 1200 bps, but the point of this game isn’t to be completely accurate.

Arduino is officially 10 years old and celebrating during Arduino Day!

Tomorrow we are celebrating Arduino and its community with a day of official and self-organised gatherings, encouraging people to meet and share their interest in open source DIY electronics with neighbors and friends. More than 250 user groups, makerspaces, hackerspaces, fablabs, schools, studios, and educators around the world joined us with a series of unique activities designed for a wide range of audiences and skillsets.

Like last year we created a map to identify all community events going on throughout Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa,  Australia and make it easier for you to find an event near you on the Arduino Day website . On Saturday the 28th of March we planned to celebrate Arduino Day with our global community.
We are organizing 4 official events in Boston (USA) at MIT, in Torino (Italy) at Officine Arduino, in Malmo (Sweden) at Arduino Verkstad, in Budapest (Hungary) at Arduino Hungary,and in Bangalore (India) at Arduino Karkhana.

If you live near one of them you can come an visit us, otherwise you can organize one locally and invite experts or a newbies, engineers, designers, crafters and makers to give their contribution and share their experience with Arduino. Submissions for organizers are open until 15th of March!

Arduino Day is open to anyone who wants to celebrate Arduino and all the things that have been done (or can be done!) with it. The events will offer different types of activities, tailored to local audiences all over the world.

To organize an event during Arduino Day, go through the following steps:

• Find a location and plan your activities according to the resources you have available.
  Consider different ways of engaging your audience, such as talks, panel discussions, hands-on workshops, open days, and show-and-tell events. Most of the activities should be open to the public and free of charge (you can also run a workshop with a fee, but it should not be the only activity for the day).
• Fill out the online form and submit your proposal.
  The call for submissions closes on March 15th. You need to be logged in to submit your proposal.
• Once your event has been approved, a location pin will be added to the map on the Arduino Day website.
  This is just temporary though, you need to prepare an agenda of your event to get it confirmed. You will also receive a confirmation email with a link to download your Digital Kit, which includes: Official Arduino Day posters, Event flyer, Official signage system, graphics for Badges, and a 10% discount code for the Arduino Store.
• Publish the agenda of the event on an online page.
  Make sure the final agenda for the day is published online. You can create a blogpost, a Facebook event, a meetup, an Eventbrite page, or whatever online page you like. Only Community events with an online agenda will be confirmed.
