Last friday in Rome during the press conference of Maker Faire Rome 4th edition, Riccardo Luna together with Massimo Banzi announced that next October the event is going to become “better, bigger and stronger”.
A new location by Fiera di Roma building will host six pavilions in an area of over 100.000 sq.m. for makers, visitors, conferences, seminars and workshops. The event promoted by the Rome Chamber of Commerce and powered by its Innovation Unit “AssetCamera “ is once more curated by Massimo Banzi, Arduino co-founder, along with Riccardo Luna, Italian Digital Champion.

The topics featured at Maker Faire Rome 2016 are going to be home automation, re-use, drones and robots, 3D printing, digital manufacturing, industry 4.0, IoT – Internet of things, mobility, safety & security, food , fashion, music and especially Food & Nutrition.Together with the Future Food Institute (FFI), trust voted to food and innovation, Maker Faire will focus on the intersection between food and technology and will deepen the relationship between nutrition, health & wellbeing. The “Call 4 Makers” 2016 will open on April 18th and will close on June 5th.

Maker Faire Rome is also looking for amazing project with a “Call for BigBang Projects”  open until March 31^st.  The call will consider large-scale, entertaining, high impact, interactive projects. Installations and performances proposals will be welcome, too. The goal is to create the most immersive scenery one could dream of for a Faire of such character.

In the meanwhile take a look at the European Maker Week, an entire week of makers’ events, from May 30th to June 5th,  promoted by The European Commission and implemented by Maker Faire Rome in collaboration with Startup Europe, the event:

aims to draw European citizens to the “Maker world” thanks to the aid of Fablabs, Makerspaces, Hackerspaces and the hardware startups environment. The goals of European Maker Week are two folds: create awareness about the importance of the maker culture to foster an education of creativity and innovation in all schools across Europe; build bridges between local authorities and media and the main players of their own local makers ecosystems. It is of particularly importance to reach out to new players (e.g. Schools) who have never organized a maker event before.

It’s time to start tinkering on new projects or pimp-up some old ones because MakerFaire Rome is calling!

Last year it was an overwhelming experience for all of us: more than 35.000 people from all over the world gathered for the first edition of the European edition of MakerFaire. Around 24o makers presented their projects ( 60% from Italy and 40% from the rest of the continent) and showed to a crowd of enthusiasts and newbies  the impact of open source community and DIY on our lives.

If you want to join us with your project in Rome from the 3rd to the 5th of October, take a look at the Call for Makers and fill it before the 25th of May:

The first step to participate in Maker Faire Rome as Maker is to submit an entry that tells us about yourself and your project. Entries can be submitted from individuals as well as from groups.
Please provide a description of what you make and what you would like to bring to Maker Faire, including links to photographs and/or videos of your project. We particularly encourage exhibits that are interactive and that highlight the process of making things. Continue >>

If you are a maker living in Europe and you’ve been looking at the Makerfaire events with enthusiasm and wishing to be there, this is the moment to spring into action because The Call for Makers for the 1st Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition, is NOW open (until 2nd June 2013)!

The Call is the opportunity you have to submit your great project to the Maker Faire Team and become one of the protagonists of this amazing Show (and Tell) taking place next October in Rome.

We are welcoming projects from all over Europe because we believe that the power of innovation should not be limited by local bounds. Makers from all over the continent  are invited to take part and share their projects to all the lovers of the “do it yourself” spirit, connect and feel the empowerment of sharing.

Even if the main focus of the event is about highlighting the process of making things together, we are  also looking for performers and presenters who want to share their ideas and projects from a stage. Read carefully the call to snatch all the details.

If you’d like a bit of inspiration, stay tuned to our blog as in the next weeks we’ll be featuring some of the makers who have exhibited at previous Maker Faires.

And keep in mind that the deadline for submissions is Sunday 2nd June 2013.

E’ terminato da qualche giorno il primo capitolo dell’#arduinotour, a Roma. E’ stata una esperienza molto interessante che ci ha fatto capire cosa funziona nel nostro metodo di insegnamento , ma che ci ha permesso di aggiustare il tiro su alcune mancanze comunicative dettate dell’accumularsi di eventi (e.g. abbiamo informato gli utenti iscritti alla presentazione del venerdì in ritardo, e ce ne scusiamo).

Un grazie particolare a Paolo De Gasperis, Marta Serpietri e Leonardo De Cosmo di Discienza per il supporto organizzativo e a Cattid per la location.

Detto questo, ci siamo sforzati di restituire quanto più possibile del materiale prodotto al workshop a tutti i nostri lettori. I progetti emersi sono stati tre (vedi video sopra / guarda il set sul flickr), e devo ammettere che il livello é molto alto per un workshop base. Tutti i codici dei progetti sono online sul nostro github. Non abbiamo usato particolari periferiche fatta eccezione dell’Arduino Wifi Shield, dell’Ethernet Shield,di un paio di Sensori di Alcohol di Parallax e di cinque FSR oltre ovviamente ad un roverino facilmente reperibile online.

I prossimi workshop dell’#arduinotour sono a Cava De’ Tirreni il prossimo 20-21 ottobre, a Matera il 17-18 Novembre e saranno tenuti da Mirco Piccin e da me: ci divertiremo!

Chi fa un salto?

Siete tutti invitati domani sera (28 Settembre 2012) alle ore 18:00 a Roma presso il Nuovo Cinema Palazzo per un incontro / presentazione sulle tematiche dell’autoproduzione, digital fabrication e Arduino.

A seguire, durante l’aperitivo, riprenderà vita l’installazione San Lorenzo Virtual Bike, un’installazione interattiva che permette pedalando di immergersi virtualmente fra le strade del quartiere, e proietteremo in sala il documentario Arduino: The Documentary.

L’evento di domani é l’inaugurazione dell’#arduinotour che vedrà workshop di Arduino organizzati qua e là in giro per l’Italia. Il prossimo sarà a Cava de’ Tirreni, ma stiamo per lanciare quello di Matera a metà novembre. Se per qualunque motivo vorreste farci sapere dove potremmo venire riempite questo form.

Ecco il primo di una serie di workshop che Officine Arduino organizzerà in Italia. Quale luogo migliore da cui iniziare se non la capitale? Abbiamo parlato / immaginato / organizzato con molte persone in questi mesi – da Trieste in giù – ed il buon Alex Giordano lo ha già ribattezzato come il “Tour di Arduino“. Ci accontentiamo di portare workshop dove non sono mai stati, e quindi al Sud, nelle isole. Vogliamo rispondere alle decine di mail di utenti che hanon chiesto e chiedono un workshop a casa loro.

Oggi ci accontentiamo di annunciare questo workshop, che non sarebbe stato possibile senza l’appoggio di Cattid- Centro di Ricerca sulla Comunicazione e la Tecnologia dell’Università la “Sapienza” di Roma e gli amici di DiScienza, una associazione italiana di cui abbiamo parlato spesso, organizzatori dell’annuale Arduino Day che si tiene ogni anno proprio a Roma.

Una talk pubblica su Arduino e l’Educazione, con la spiegazione di vari progetti e possibilità di fare domande e networking é prevista in venerdì 28 settembre in luogo da definirsi. Qualora foste interessati iscrivetevi qui.

Abbiamo anche cercato di venire incontro ad alcune problematiche che sorgono quando si organizzano eventi in giro. Cosa succede se non avvengono vicino a te? Proprio per questo lanciamo un servizio abbastanza rudimentale: un form in cui potete dire dove siete e noi, una volta raggiunto un certo numero di persone vi informiamo in anticipo sulle date e i posti.

Ovviamente non volevamo escludere gli utenti del vivace forum italiano, ai quali offriamo di partecipare gratuitamente alla parte di realizzazione dei progetti della domenica. Per ovvie ragioni abbiamo dovuto limitare il numero di fruitori di questo servizio (che testiamo proprio in questa occasione) al numero di 5 persone. E’ molto importante supportare piccole realtà (non tanto piccole nel caso di Roma, ovviamente) di Smanettoni Arduinici Urbani (i famosi SAU).
